Sciences Faculty Member Honored With University Professorship

Cathrine Hoyo delivers a talk at the 2020 CHHE Symposium.

Cathrine Hoyo, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, has been honored by NC State with a professorship of distinction that recognizes outstanding scholarly work.

Hoyo, who was named Distinguished Professor, was honored for achieving recognition well above the criteria for a full professor and for achieving status as among the finest scholars in her field.

Hoyo is known for her outstanding contributions to the understanding of the complex mechanisms that underlie how environmental exposures affect human health with an eye on how these interactions can be further complicated by economic and social disparities.

She joined NC State in 2014 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in Environmental Health Science. She also serves as director of the Epidemiology and Environmental Epigenomics Laboratory.
