Bio
Dr. Jeff Yoder graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Biotechnology, performed his graduate work on mammalian DNA methyltransferases with Dr. Tim Bestor, and received his Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Harvard University’s graduate program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. He then did a postdoc studying comparative immunogenetics with Dr. Gary Litman at the University of South Florida. Jeff was faculty at the University of South Florida before joining the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State in 2004. In 2024, Jeff moved to the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Sciences when he took on the role of Executive Director of the Genetics and Genomics Academy.
Jeff’s research is focused on comparative immunology with an emphasis on understanding how immune systems recognize and destroy invading pathogens while leaving their own cells unscathed. His research interests span all vertebrate lineages, but his lab employs zebrafish, rodents, and human cells as models for discovery. His current research is focused on how genetic diversity and exposure to environmental chemicals impact immune function in all animals including humans.”
