Sarah Bessey has served as an Academic Advisor on the Life Sciences First Year team since August 2019. Prior to her role with LSFY, she was a Pre-Health and Law Advisor at the University of Virginia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in sociology from Ohio University and briefly worked in healthcare administration before completing her masters of education in Higher Education from the University of Virginia. Sarah loves the connections she can build with her students through the advising relationship and teaching the LSC 103 course, which is a favorite aspect of her role in LSFY. Her biggest piece of advice for all students is to focus on the “why” behind your “what” – reflecting on why you’re engaging in an activity and how you’re getting value from it, can help you choose your activities with more thought and intention.
A great detail about LSFY is that we’re dedicated to helping students find their right “fit,” which means we have students pursue majors across the University, not just in the life sciences.
